Tencent Foundation Partners with Heart to Heart Joint Action to Host the 2023 99 Giving Day in Hong Kong


Committed to promoting altruism and supporting Hong Kong’s disadvantaged communities through technological innovations

The Tencent Charity Foundation (“Tencent Foundation”) and the Hong Kong Social Welfare Sector Heart to Heart Joint Action are co-hosting this year’s 99 Giving Day in Hong Kong. With the theme Heart to Heart, Together for Good, the event aims to spread love to the public. From September 1 to September 10, 2023, 22 charitable organizations will participate in the program, holding various charity activities online and in different regions across Hong Kong.

The 99 Giving Day, Heart to Heart, Together for Good Kickoff Carnival was held on August 31. The Acting Secretary for Labor and Welfare Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr. Ho Kai-ming, JP, presiding over the opening ceremony, said: “I would like to thank Heart to Heart Joint Action and Tencent Foundation for co-hosting the 99 Giving Day. I hope the event will effectively connect the social welfare sectors of both regions, channel more public welfare resources into the Greater Bay Area, allow more platforms to organize social welfare groups, and align with innovative technologies of the mainland of China, to provide higher-quality social welfare services for Hong Kong.”

The Acting Secretary for Labor and Welfare Bureau of the HKSAR, Mr. Ho Kai-ming, JP, hopes the event will effectively connect the social welfare sectors of both regions and align with innovative mainland technologies to provide higher-quality social welfare services for Hong Kong.

Professor Annie Tam Kam Lan, GBS, JP, Vice Chairperson of the Hong Kong Heart to Heart Joint Action, said: “Heart to Heart Joint Action aims to provide an effective platform for the Hong Kong social welfare sector to unite and collaborate with all sectors, promoting mutual enhancement of social welfare services between Hong Kong and the mainland of China, and dedicated to the continuous development of global social welfare efforts. Heart to Heart Joint Action is deeply grateful to Tencent Foundation for inviting us to do good together on 99 Giving Day, initiating a new chapter for ‘benefiting the people and warming their hearts’.”

Mr. Li Tsz Shu, James, Tencent’s Vice President of Public Affairs and Chief Executive, Tencent Foundation, hopes to build an internet public welfare culture together with Hong Kong’s social welfare sector partners using technology.

This year’s “99 Giving Day” in Hong Kong will include a variety of online and offline charity events that aim to spread love through technological innovations.

Tencent Foundation is bringing Tencent’s Ethereal Audio Action, which addresses hearing impairment, to Hong Kong in partnership with Caritas Hong Kong to help more people in need. At the same time, Tencent Foundation will work with local charities from multiple perspectives, promising to conduct charity events both online and offline, spreading love with the power of technological innovations.

  • Tencent Foundation and WeChat Pay HK have set up an online charity donation platform in Hong Kong. The partners and beneficiaries will expand to 22 charitable organizations.
  • Since May 9, 2023, Tencent Foundation has been working with the Community Chest. Citizens can get a “little safflower” each day by making a purchase, distributing red envelopes, or transferring 1 HKD or more with WeChat Pay HK. During the 99 Giving Day, citizens can get up to two little safflowers each day. For each little safflower donated, Tencent Foundation will donate 1 HKD to support the Community Chest, with donations for the three quarters reaching up to 4.5 million HKD.
  • Ethereal Audio Action brings the scientific achievements of the Tencent Ethereal Audio Lab and the Tencent SSV Silver Hair Technology Lab to Hong Kong. In cooperation with Caritas Hong Kong and the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic of the University of Hong Kong, they will launch a community hearing assessment and support program using Ethereal Audio AI technology for hearing tests and assessments for the hearing impaired.
  • On the day of the launch, Tencent Foundation, in conjunction with several charities, held a charity fair carnival. Services covered include senior citizen fitness technology experience, inclusive handicraft workshops, on-site hearing tests and assessments, and various elder-inclusive activities such as life and death education.
