The Tencent Foundation, also known as the Tencent Philanthropic and Charitable Foundation, is a nationwide non-public fundraising foundation registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs in June 2007. It is the first philanthropic foundation initiated by an internet company in China. Tencent Company donated an original fund of 20 million and committed to continuously donate a certain proportion of profits every year. From 2007 to 2021, the Tencent Foundation has received more than 7 billion from Tencent Group and employees. The foundation is dedicated to promoting the deep integration and development of the internet and philanthropic and charitable endeavors. It funds the “Tencent Philanthropy” platform and Tencent’s technological philanthropy, helping to develop the digitalization of the public welfare industry and cultivate the public welfare habits of millions of netizens, and promoting an internet public welfare ecology in which everyone can participate. At the same time, the Tencent Foundation continues to focus on and support the development of communities and innovative funding in two directions. On one hand, through the Warm Home Plan and the Home Aid Station project, it helps to build the community public welfare industry ecology, promote innovation in grass-roots governance; on the other hand, through innovative funding directions such as the Technology Philanthropy Venture Capital Plan, the Thousand and Hundred Plan, and the Knowledge Production Funding Plan, it helps the sustainable development of the industry and the sharing of public welfare knowledge systems. In addition, in 2016, the Tencent Foundation, the Nandu Foundation, and the Chen Yidan Foundation jointly launched the “China Internet Public Welfare Summit”. The summit is held once a year, providing a platform for in-depth exchange, collision of opinions, wisdom gathering, and technological foresight for the public welfare industry, and working together with the industry to promote more innovation and efficient connection in the public welfare industry.
